Our Next Steps

TAKING THE LEAD

As the Furneaux Collective, we are committed to revitalising Flinders Island's local economy and to create a flourishing future. It's essential for us to mobilise our community, nurture our business ecosystems, and activate environmental initiatives. There's a shared readiness within our community to embrace this journey, demonstrating a community-driven approach to economic, social development, and environmental regeneration that is worldleading.

BUILDING ON THE MOMENTUM

The social and economic tipping points – the points at which it becomes more difficult to maintain healthy, functioning, social, economic and environmental systems – have arrived on Flinders Island. These challenges cannot be solved using solutions 'from away'. We need to build capacity within the community and use our local knowledge and island ingenuity.

BEING THE EXEMPLAR

We will be the leading exemplar for all Tasmania, by sharing what we learn. Instead of focusing on small reactive measures, our challenge is big so we are asking for a kick start. The Islander Way project helped us clarify our values, mission and objectives. We can be an innovation hub and lighthouse for experimental action, sharing it with other Tasmanian and global communities.

VALUING ISLAND THINKING

Islanders understand carrying capacity, agile innovation and complex problem-solving. The Regenerative Framework brings together and synthesises the actions that Islanders want to see not what consultants ‘from away’ want to do. It's a testament to our commitment to shape our future, grounded in the values and aspirations of the Furneaux Collective.
